Country defends fixed payment per hectare of standing forest for developing countries that have achieved results in combating deforestation; During the UN Forest Forum, the Brazilian representative states that the proposal has been well received in bilateral dialogues and multilateral meetings.
The UN warns that these ecosystems, which cover around a third of the planet’s land, are under constant threat and defends national and international policies to keep them standing. During the event, Brazil reinforced the “Tropical Forests Forever” proposal, which had been presented at the 28th Climate Summit, COP28.
Growing support
The director general of the Brazilian Forest Service, Garo Batmanian, spoke to UN News about the support that the initiative has received from other countries since then.
